Worked example
A PNG logo on a transparent background becomes a JPEG on white. Photographic PNGs usually get much smaller — flat graphics can look a little softer.
FAQ
- What happens to transparency?
- JPEG can't store it. Transparent pixels are painted white before the file is saved.
- Why would I convert to JPEG?
- Photos come out smaller as JPEG. Screenshots and logos with hard edges are often better left as PNG.
- Can I choose the quality?
- This conversion uses a fixed high JPEG quality. Use the Image Compressor if you want a quality slider.
