Sales Tax Calculator
Add tax to a price, or pull the tax back out of a total you've already been quoted.
Total
10% on $80.00 is $8.00 tax, $88.00 in total.
$80.00 + 10% = $88.00
Tax
$8.00
Net
$80.00
Worked example
Add 10% GST to an $80 net price and the tax is $8, so the total is $88. Extract 10% from an $88 total and the tax is $8, so the net price is $80 — same dollars, just travelling in opposite directions.
FAQ
- What is the difference between adding and extracting tax?
- Add puts the percent on top of the amount. Extract pulls the tax back out of a figure that already includes it.
- How do I extract GST in Australia?
- Choose extract and enter 10%. The net amount is the total divided by 1.10, and the tax is the remainder.
- Does this know local tax rules?
- No. It applies the rate you type. Use 10 for Australian GST, or another rate if you're pricing for somewhere else.
